MISSION & GOAL STATEMENTS:

The Kinney County Library is the Public Library of Brackettville and Kinney County, Texas.
The Mission of The Kinney County Library is to provide quality materials and services which fulfill informational, educational, recreational, cultural, historical and intellectual needs of the entire community in an atmosphere that is welcoming, respectful and businesslike.

The general goals of the Kinney County Library shall be:

  1. To serve all residents of the community and the surrounding region.
  2. To acquire and make available to all residents of the above area such books, periodicals, pamphlets, and other services as will address their needs.
  3. To acquire the means to provide the most frequently requested material locally and upon demand.
  4. To strive consistently to discover new methods and improvements for better service for the library's customers.

 

ANALYSIS OF COMMUNITY AND USERS:

Brackettville is a small rural community with a population of 1,876 within the city limits. Other towns include Fort Clark Springs (1,070) and Spofford (75). The population is composed of 50% Hispanics, 47% Anglo, 1.8% Black. Out of population, 20 % are below poverty level, 24% are senior citizens, and 22% are school age children. The educational level includes 17% college graduates, and 66% high school graduates.

The economy is largely dependent of agriculture, tourism, and government service and ranching. There are several small family-owned businesses. The local school system is a major employer. There are many who commute to other areas to work or attend college.
